Driver identified, booked in two-fatality accident

The driver of a truck involved in a two-fatality accident on Kellogg early Tuesday morning has been identified as Alban Lamont Vanzandt, according to a Sedgwick County Jail booking report.

The driver of a truck involved in a two-fatality accident on Kellogg early Tuesday morning has been identified as Alban Lamont Vanzandt, according to a Sedgwick County Jail booking report.

Vanzandt, 37, of Channelview, Texas, was booked on suspicion of two counts of second-degree murder, unintentional but reckless, at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday, records show. Authorities are scheduled to present his case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney at 2 p.m. Thursday, District Attorney’s Office spokesman Dan Dillon said; his first appearance in court has not yet been set.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday, authorities say, a 37-year-old man was driving a white Dodge Ram pickup west on Kellogg when it struck a metal light pole at Kellogg and Webb. The impact caused extensive damage to the passenger side of the vehicle and caused its two passengers — a 50-year- old man and a 34-year-old man — to be ejected. They died on impact.

Killed were Federico Martinez, 50, from Freeport, Texas, and Hig Inio Gonzalez III, from Orange, Texas, Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said Wednesday.

The driver did not sustain any obvious injuries and was able to walk away from the accident.
