The weather went from weird to weirder Tuesday evening as a severe thunderstorm watch was issued for counties in south-central Kansas including Sedgwick – holding out a chance for simultaneous snow and hail from about 8 to 10 p.m., meteorologist Chance Hayes of the National Weather Service said.
The main threat from the severe thunderstorm watch is hail, Hayes said, but if the cold layer is deep enough, there could be snow at the same time.
“It’s going to be an interesting evening,” he said.
The watch is set to expire at 1 a.m., causing it to overlap for a few hours with a winter weather advisory that is to go in effect at 10 p.m. Tuesday and last until 7 p.m. Wednesday.
