A 29-year-old Wichita man has died following an accident Monday in which the pickup truck he was driving left a parking lot in east Wichita and was found submerged in a retention pond.
The man, whose name is not being released pending notification of kin, was known to have had medical conditions that may have factored into the accident, said Lt. Doug Nolte, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.
The accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Monday at 3851 N. Webb Road.
The man, who was driving the pickup, was submerged underwater for at least 18 minutes.
“Rescue crews were able to get in and pull him out,” Nolte said. “The fire department rescued him; EMS transported him to the hospital.”
But once at the hospital, he had to be revived at least once.
“We believe it was either a medical issue or a mechanical issue with the truck,” Nolte said. “The investigation is pointing toward this being an accident.”
