A 56-year-old Wichita man remained in critical condition Tuesday following a one-vehicle accident in the 800 block of West Harry.
The accident happened at 11 p.m. Monday when the man was driving a pickup west on Harry near McLean Boulevard in the center lane, according to Lt. Joe Schroeder, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.
The driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road, and his pickup struck a curb, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The pickup then struck a railroad barrier outside a business, causing extensive damage to the truck.
The driver was not using a seat belt and struck his head against the windshield, Schroeder said. He said speed and alcohol were probably factors in the crash.
A passer-by found the driver and notified a Sedgwick County sheriff’s officer, who in turn contacted the Wichita Police Department.
Approximately five minutes before the accident, the man hit a wall on the Afton Motel at 855 S. Broadway, Schroeder said.
