El Dorado police are investigating a shooting where a private security officer reported that while he was handling a gun on duty, he accidentally fired it. The round went through a wall, causing a minor injury to an 18-year-old college student.
In an e-mail statement Tuesday, Police Chief Tom Boren gave this account: At about 10:30 p.m. Monday, police were called to the Villa Apartments, 700 S. Haverhill, to investigate a report of an accidental shooting in the office area.
Boren said the apartments are privately owned and not on campus but mostly students live there. The injured person is a Butler Community College student, he said.
Officers saw damage to a computer and furniture. When the shot was fired, the student suffered a minor injury while working at a computer in a room next to the office
The officer could face possible charges of aggravated battery and reckless bodily harm, the statement said.
The officer was questioned and released; the county attorney is reviewing the case.
