Wichita State students might get to binge on free pizza if the Shockers win the NCAA National Championship on April 8.
Pizza Hut representatives say that if the Shockers win it all in Atlanta, the company will dispatch a mobile unit to the campus to feed all students for one day the week after the tournament ends.
“We’re very proud of our heritage and history in Wichita, and when we see things coming out of the city and campus, we’re aware and proud to be a part of that,” said Doug Terfehr, director of public relations for Pizza Hut.
Pizza Hut was founded in Wichita in 1958. The original Pizza Hut building was moved to the WSU campus in 1984, according to The Eagle’s archives.
Terfehr said they don’t yet have an estimate on the number of pizzas that would be required to feed the entire student body, but they would “bring plenty and be prepped and ready for them.”
“It’s an exciting moment already, but it’s always better when there’s pizza around,” Terfehr said.
For everyone else, if the Shockers become national champs, all large one-topping pizzas will be $9 for those who sign up for the company’s e-mail program – that’s because WSU is the No. 9 seed.
WSU beat La Salle on Thursday night in Los Angeles, advancing to the Elite Eight against Ohio State on Saturday.
