A Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputy wounded in the eye by a shotgun blast earlier this month in Butler County is recovering from another surgery, and the Sheriff’s Office appreciates support the deputy has received from the public, Sheriff Jeff Easter said Wednesday.
The deputy, Lucas Powell, is still recovering from surgery Tuesday to relieve pressure and clear up scar tissue, Easter said at the weekly briefing for media. The deputy has had two surgeries so far, Easter said. Easter declined to comment on how the deputy’s eyesight has been affected.
Powell, 33, was wounded on March 11 in Butler County after a three-county chase that ended with a shootout near Potwin.
Powell’s medical bills are being paid by the county, Lt. Dave Mattingly has said.
