Clarissa Miller’s artwork was chosen as Best of Show this week in the Kansas Junior Duck Stamp program.
Miller’s artwork, “Safe Among the Reeds,” was selected from 915 entries. The program was created more than two decades ago to help raise awareness and appreciation for the nation’s wetlands and waterfowl. Kansas was one of the first states to participate.
Miller, 17, of Hutchinson has entered the contest in previous years. Her artwork will represent Kansas in the national judging on April 19 in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
Each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will present one piece of artwork. The top winner’s piece will be made into the Junior Duck Stamp, which the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will then sell for $5 to raise money for wildlife awareness.
