Reno County authorities are investigating a one-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon that fatally injured the driver and critically injured her husband.
The accident occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Yoder Road near the intersection with Pleasant Valley Road, Reno County Sheriff’s Capt. Wayne Baughman said in a prepared statement. That’s about five miles north of Cheney Reservoir.
Jacqueline Spencer 76, was driving south on Yoder Road when the 2002 Chrysler minivan left the road into the right ditch, striking a culvert and then a barbed wire fence, Baughman said. She was taken to Hutchinson Regional Hospital, where she later died.
Her husband, Marshall, 77, was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in Wichita in critical condition, Baughman said. He has been upgraded to serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Friday.
