Boy on bike hit by truck in Hutchinson

A 7-year-old boy is in a Hutchinson hospital after being struck while riding his bike by a driver police suspect was drunk.

The collision occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday as the boy was riding his bicycle south across Ninth Avenue, Hutchinson Police Sgt. Brian Hirt said in a prepared statement. The 28-year-old man struck the child as he was turning left onto Ninth in his 1994 GMC Sierra. He had been driving north on Main before he turned left.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, aggravated battery and no insurance, Hirt said. The child was taken to Hutchinson Hospital for treatment of lacerations to his body and face. He was then admitted.
