Because March is colon cancer awareness month, the American Cancer Society is encouraging Kansans over age 50 to get tested.

While supplies last, free Fecal Occult Blood Tests will be offered at the following Walgreens locations in Wichita throughout March: Central and Hillside; 13th and Waco; Central and West; Harry and Broadway; 55th Street South and Broadway; Harry and Edgemoor, and 13th and Woodlawn.

The free screenings are being offered through collaboration with the American Cancer Society, Via Christi Health, Walgreens, AMS Labs and Project Access.

The American Cancer Society predicts an estimated 1,250 Kansans will be diagnosed with colon cancer in 2013; of that number, nearly 500 will die from the disease. If caught early, the cancer has a 90 percent survival rate.
