A Butler County sheriff’s deputy captured a burglary suspect early Thursday afternoon, allowing Andover schools to lift a lockdown that was planned to be in effect all day.
The suspect was taken into custody shortly after noon in the 300 block of South Brown, just east of Andover, in Butler County, said Joe Anderson, assistant director for 911 in Butler County.
Multiple law enforcement agencies had been searching for the man since a burglary was reported at about 7 a.m. at a business in the 2400 block of east U.S. 54. They had used a helicopter and tracking dogs in the search.
That search prompted Andover to close its schools, starting at about 8:15 a.m. All exterior doors were locked.
Although the active intense search was called off by late morning, school officials decided to keep the lockdown in effect throughout the rest of the day as a precautionary measure. But that was no longer necessary after the suspect apprehended.
