Mulvane schools went into lockdown for more than an hour late Tuesday morning in the wake of a bank robbery across town.
The Carson Bank on Main Street was robbed at 10:44 a.m. by a white man in his 40s, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said. The suspect is about 5-feet-7 and between 140 and 150 pounds, witnesses told authorities.
He wore a gray stocking cap, an orange vest, and a windbreaker, slacks and shoes that were all dark in color.
Witnesses said he had large cheekbones and a sunken mouth. He left in a red and white F-250 or similar large truck.
News of the robbery prompted Mulvane schools to go into lockdown, even though the bank is not near the schools.
“Everything’s pretty close in Mulvane,” district spokesman Tom Keil said.
Students and staff were kept inside at all schools until police gave an “all clear” at 12:15 p.m. and the lockdown was released, Keil said.
