State officials want public input on their plans to clean up a 1989 chemical spill at the former Unocal Chemical Distribution facility in Wichita.
The company, at 2100 E. 37th Street North, has tried to clean up the soil at the site for years, but the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has a new plan to deal with the contamination. Learn more about the site and the plan to clean it up at http://www.kdheks.gov/remedial/site_restoration/unocal.html. It can also be viewed at the city’s office of environmental health at 1900 E. Ninth Street. State officials will be available to discuss the cleanup at 7 p.m. March 5 at the office of environmental health.
People can share their views on the plan through March 12. Send written comments to the KDHE Bureau of Environmental Remediation, Attention: Holly Burke, 1000 SW Jackson Street, Suite 410, Topeka, KS 66612. E-mail comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
