Two Wichita men remain hospitalized a day after they were injured in a weather-related collision in Newton on Wednesday morning.
Stephen Atterbery, 26, is in critical condition at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis and Tim Shelton, 61, is in fair condition at Wesley Medical Center as of late Thursday morning.
Atterbery was driving north on I-135 shortly before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday when his Dodge Ram skidded on snow-greased pavement into a guardrail near the First Street exit in Newton, authorities said. Atterbery got out to inspect the damage and was hit by his own pickup when it was struck by a Chevy Silverado driven by Shelton.
Each vehicle had a passenger, Harvey County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Melissa Flavin said, but neither was seriously injured in the collision.
