Registration has begun for the annual Biking Across Kansas tour that typically allows 800 cyclists from the ages 8 to 85 to see Kansas up close and personal.
The 2013 tour takes eight days and attracts not only Kansans but cyclists from nearly 30 states. This year’s 507-mile ride starts June 8 on the Kansas-Colorado line west of Johnson City and ends June 15 east of Galena at the Missouri border.
The route includes a southern tour of the state through the Gypsum or Red Hills near Medicine Lodge, past the original site of Laura Ingalls Wilder “Little House on the Prairie” cabin near Independence, and a short ride on Kansas’ 13.2-mile stretch of historic Route 66 highway near Galena.
