Wichita police are looking for a man who pointed a gun at a pursuing officer before throwing it aside and fleeing late Monday night.
The incident began shortly after 9 p.m. Monday when a patrol officer attempted to pull over a black Honda for a traffic violation in the 2100 block of North Piatt, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. The driver of the Honda ran from the vehicle and into an alley, with the officer pursuing him in his patrol car.
The suspect pulled a handgun from his waistband and turned to point it at the officer before realizing the officer “was getting close,” Schroeder said. He threw the handgun down and kept running.
Responding officers were unable to find the man, but did find a crystal powder in the Honda that tested positive for meth, a police report states. They also found the discarded gun and the man’s cellphone, Schroeder said.
“There’s a lot of follow-up to be done” on the case, he said.
