Would-be robber flees when clerk says she can’t open cash drawer

Wichita police a searching for a man who attempted to rob a Neighborhood Wal-Mart early Sunday.

The incident happened in the 600 block of North West Street when a man walked into the store and demanded cash from a clerk, telling her he had a gun in his right-hand pocket.

The clerk told him she couldn’t get the cash drawer open and the man fled the store, according to Sgt. Bart Brunscheen, spokesman with the Wichita Police Department.

The man is described as a black man with light skin, approximately 6 feet tall. He was slender, wearing a light brown Carthartt jacket, blue jeans, corn row braids, a white do rag and a black baseball cap. He left in a mid-size four-door charcoal gray car with alloy rims.

Police are searching through the store’s video for more information.
