Fire heavily damaged a house near Augusta in rural Butler County on Wednesday night, authorities said.
The fire was reported at about 7:40 p.m. in the 4600 block of Southwest 98th Terrace, which is a few miles east of Augusta. When Augusta firefighters arrived, there was “heavy involvement” of flames, said Maj. Ray Marbut of the Augusta Department of Public Safety.
Crews “got the fire under control pretty quick,” Marbut said, but the two-story house sustained heavy damage.
A state fire investigator is assisting with determining the cause of the fire, he said. A damage estimate has not been set.
The man and woman who live at the house were able to escape without injury, Marbut said.
