A mother and son endured an unwelcome visitor to their south Wichita home early Tuesday morning when a man trying to flee pursuing officers burst through the door and tried to hide.
Officers followed him inside the house in the 600 block of South Spruce and took him into custody, Lt. Doug Nolte said.
The incident began shortly after 3:30 a.m. when officers attempted to pull over a vehicle they had reason to believe had been involved in a drug transaction, Nolte said. The pursuit began in the area of Bluffview and Wilma. That’s just north of Harry between Oliver and Hillside.
The chase lasted about a half-mile before the 25-year-old man driving the vehicle bailed out in the 600 block of South Spruce, Nolte said. He burst through the unlocked door of a house on the block and tried to hide.
He had no connection to the house, where a 51-year-old woman and her 22-year-old son live, Nolte said. Officers found meth, a set of scales and cash in the possession of the suspect and arrested him.
A 17-year-old girl riding with the man was arrested on a curfew violation, Nolte said. She did not attempt to flee the car when the driver bailed, he said.
