Cox Communications e-mail service was disrupted for most of the weekend, affecting residential accounts through a large portion of the nation. Regions of the Midwest, including Kansas, and on the East Coast were hit particularly hard.
Customers on Cox e-mail accounts have not been able to send or receive e-mail.
On Sunday night, the company’s website said the system was beginning to come back online and some customers might be able to access their accounts. The company went on to say, however, that it did not know when service would be restored for all customers.
The website noted:

“Currently, all messages that have been received since Friday are queued in our system and we anticipate delivering messages to customers on a rolling basis as we bring the platform back online. Your queued e-mails will arrive gradually and may not be delivered in chronological order. You may continue to receive these queued e-mails over the course of several days after your service is restored.”
The outage affects all residential customers who use a Cox.net account.
It did not affect e-mail accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail.
“We deeply regret the impact this has had, especially at a time when many customers are busy preparing for holiday celebrations with their families and friends,” the website said.
