Wichita school board members on Monday will consider updates to its policies on nutrition and wellness and will vote on a new technology plan.
The board meets 6 p.m. Monday at the North High lecture hall, 1437 Rochester.
Updates to the wellness policy limit the types of products that can be sold during lunchtime fundraisers.
According to the policy, groups are not allowed to sell "foods of minimal nutritional value" during meal times in any area where reimbursable meals are sold or eaten.
Never miss a local story.
For the past year, as schools phased in the policy changes, groups that raise money by selling snack items or pop during lunch have had to look for alternatives – either selling healthier items, such as popcorn, granola bars or bottled water, or moving sales away from the cafeteria.
Board members on Monday also will consider minor revisions to a policy on gift funds such as Education EDGE, which awards grants for athletics, fine arts and classroom projects.
The board will vote on a new technology plan designed to guide the district’s technology initiatives and purchases through 2015.
