Kansas residents can now receive e-mail notifications when registered offenders move near their homes, schools or places of work, state officials said Tuesday as they unveiled a new system for tracking the offenders.

Attorney General Derek Schmidt said in a news release that the revamped system includes expanded search capabilities and maps that show offenders’ registered locations. Citizens can search for offender information by name, location, reporting compliance or offender type. Searches can also be done to see if a phone number, online identity or e-mail address is associated with a registered offender.

The offender registry can be accessed at www.kbi.ks.gov/registeredoffender.
