Butler County cowboy preacher Dan Boyd is a man with a mission.
At age 62, he is headed off on a journey by horseback that he hopes will eventually cover 48 states. He will be doing it as an old-fashioned circuit riding minister with the motto, “Stay safe in the saddle.”
On Sunday, at 10:30 a.m., Boyd will lead a church service at the Butler County Cowboy Church, followed by a free lunch at 2 p.m. and a 4 p.m. concert. The church is located at 5118 SW 100 Street, 11/2 miles east of Augusta.
The minister said his goal along the journey is “to mend fences, fix a porch, replace windows, patch roofs or whatever else needs fixing.”
People who have horses and would like to join him on the day’s first ride are encouraged to accompany him as he rides off into the Flint Hills. To chart his progress, go to http://www.the-last-circuit-riding-preacher.com.
Boyd will be accompanied on the trip with his wife, Gracie, and their son, Gary.
