Twenty-nine World War II veterans from Kansas will be on flights Wednesday to see their war’s memorial in Washington, D.C.
Twenty will fly out of Wichita and the other nine out of Kansas City as part of the trip sponsored by Kansas Honor Flight. Among those on the Wichita flight is Sam Maier, a 101-year-old from Great Bend, who will be the oldest WWII vet to take part in an honor flight out of Kansas since they first began in 2008.
Maier was the subject of an Eagle story that ran last month. The flight will return Friday.
The Hutchinson-based Kansas Honor Flight has scheduled its next flight for Oct. 17-19. WWII veterans interested in filling out an application for that flight should contact Mike VanCampen at firstname.lastname@example.org or 620-546-2400.
