Correction: The location of the house was incorrectly placed in relation to Pawnee in a previous version of this story.
Casey Toothman is hiding, but he’s not hiding the fact that he was shot in a robbery.
Wichita police say Toothman, 19, is wanted in connection with the home robbery of a 66-year-old disabled veteran early on the morning of Sept. 4. Toothman and two other teens forced their way into the man’s house in the 2100 block of Lori Lane, told the resident they would not hurt him if he did not get in their way, and then stole a television, iPad and cash, Lt. Joe Schroeder said.
The trio left, but Toothman came back inside the house on Lori Lane, which is east of Rock Road and north of Pawnee. At that point, Schroeder said, the victim feared for his safety and shot Toothman in the shoulder with the 9mm handgun he kept near the chair he slept in.
Toothman left, and his accomplices told police they haven’t seen him since the robbery. A CrimeStoppers tip on Sept. 11 led to the arrest the next day of a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man in connection with the case, Schroeder said.
Toothman hasn’t gone to a local hospital for treatment of the wound, and relatives don’t know where he is. But he’s posted a photo of his gunshot wound on his Facebook page and told others he got it during a robbery, Schroeder said.
“I’m sure it’s infected by now,” he said.
Toothman is 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes. He is wanted for robbery, aggravated burglary and violating his probation, police say.
Anyone who knows Toothman’s location should call 911, Schroeder said.
