“The Moving Wall,” a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, will be in Valley Center’s Lions Park from Oct. 18-22.

The traveling wall will be set up and available for the public to see starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18. An opening ceremony will be held at the park, 316 E. Clay, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Park hours will be extended so the wall will be available to the public 24 hours a day over the weekend, Oct. 19-21, Valley Center city officials said.

The wall is a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The granite wall is more than 250 feet long and is inscribed with the names of more than 58,000 Americans who died or are missing in Vietnam.

It has been touring the country since 1984, two years after the memorial was dedicated in Washington. The wall is currently in Audubon, Minn., and will be coming from Dubuque, Iowa, to Valley Center.
