Second-story deck collapses in south Wichita, injuring three people

Three people were injured early Sunday – one seriously – when a second-story patio deck collapsed as six people were standing on it, according to Sgt. Bart Brunscheen, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

The accident happened at 2:45 a.m. Sunday during a party in the 3100 block of East Conamore, west of Hillside and south of Pawnee.

“We don’t know if it is because it had too much weight on it or if it was because of faulty construction, and it failed as a structure,” Brunscheen said.

Six people were standing on the deck when it collapsed. One 24-year-old man was rushed to Wesley Medical Center in serious condition for a possible skull fracture and brain bleed. A 22-year-old woman suffered a broken ankle and, another man had a possible dislocated shoulder. The other three victims received cuts and scrapes.
