Police are investigating whether a shooting incident in northeast Wichita on Wednesday night has gang ties.
The shooting was reported at about 6:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of East 24th Street North, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That’s just west of Hillside near Mueller Elementary School.
Residents of the area heard two gunshots and called 911, and police responding to the area came across a Yukon leaving the vicinity. The three people inside clamed they were targeted by the shooter, Nolte said, but as officers continued their investigation the stories didn’t add up.
They found a gun on one of the men in the Yukon, and the 17-year-old was arrested. Police are looking for three others who have been implicated in the large disturbance that preceded the gunfire.
One bullet hit the back of a house in the area, Nolte said, but the two people inside weren’t even aware shots had been fired. Police do not think the house was targeted, he said.
