An estimated $300,000 worth of high-grade marijuana was recovered from a home in southeast Wichita last month after a real estate agent used a cellphone to photograph the drugs two days before the occupant was scheduled to move in, Wichita police said Saturday.
Sgt. Bruce Watts said the owner of the home in the 1900 block of South Shiloh contacted police on Aug. 30 after seeing the pictures on her real estate agent’s phone. The woman told officers that her husband had given a key to the new tenant before the scheduled Sept. 1 move-in date.
Watts said that when officers went to the home, which is southwest of Harry and Greenwich, they found 120 pounds of marijuana that had been grown indoors with hydroponic equipment. Watts said the man who rented the house, who had a prior conviction for illegally entering the United States, was turned over to immigration officials while federal prosecutors determine what charges to file in the case.
