Two people were arrested in connection with a Monday morning shooting near Lincoln and Oliver in southeast Wichita.
A 24-year-old man called 911 to report a woman he knows had fired a shotgun at him as he approached a house in the 900 block of South Pershing at about 10:45 a.m. Monday, Lt. Doug Nolte said. The house is a couple of blocks northwest of the intersection.
The 24-year-old man told police he thought the woman was in the house, and officers who responded to the location were unable to get a response from her. Thinking she was in the house, officers called the Special Weapons and Tactics team to the scene.
Traffic was blocked off in the area as a precaution. When the SWAT team made entry, no one was inside. The 26-year-old woman was found walking about a block away, in the 800 block of South Terrace.
She was taken into custody for questioning and later arrested, Nolte said. A 24-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of having an illegal weapon.
The gun used in the shooting was a sawed-off shotgun, which is illegal, he said. It was found in the woman’s bedroom at the house on South Pershing.
The man who was fired upon was questioned and then released, Nolte said. Police aren’t sure what prompted the altercation.
