A 37-year-old man who shot himself at a downtown Wichita hotel early Monday morning is a suspect in two robberies the day before, police say.
The man shot himself in the stomach shortly after 6:30 a.m. Monday after threatening his 41-year-old ex-girlfriend during an argument at the Royal Lodge hotel, 300 E. Kellogg Drive, Lt. Doug Nolte said.
He was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, where he underwent surgery and is in critical condition.
Investigators have reason to believe the man is a suspect in the Sunday robberies of the Family Dollar store at 322 E. 13th St. and the McDonald’s at 411 S. Broadway, Nolte said.

The Family Dollar was held up at 4:30 p.m. and the McDonald’s was robbed just after 11 p.m., police documents state.
