Wind chills at or below zero will pound a large portion of Kansas today as winter clamps down on the region.
North-northwest winds in the teens and low 20s will gust to more than 35 miles an hour today in the Wichita area, forecasters say. Highs will peak in the low 30s under mostly sunny skies. Lows tonight will fall into the low teens in Wichita.
Friday will be warmer, forecasters say, with highs in the low 40s under sunny skies. Winds will ease to the teens and shift to the west-northwest. The weekend will see temperatures continue to rebound, with highs in the low 50s under sunny skies.
