A 23-year-old man has been charged with a felony in connection with a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a southeast Wichita restaurant last week.
Dung Nguyen was charged with criminal possession of a firearm by a felon in Sedgwick County District Court on Friday afternoon. Kao Saechao, 19, was shot in the head after an altercation involving rival gang members at the Bai Wei restaurant, 1845 S. Rock Road, escalated in the parking lot early on the morning of Dec. 30.
Saechao was pronounced dead at a local hospital last Sunday.
Steven M. Louis, 21, has been charged with first-degree murder in the incident. Police have said Saechao and Louis were standing in the parking lot when someone opened fire on them from a departing Honda CRV.

Louis is alleged to have returned fire. He also faces charges of aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm in the case.
Additional charges are possible against Nguyen pending the outcome of test results, police officials say. His preliminary hearing on the criminal firearm possession charge has been set for Jan. 19.
