Wichita police are looking for a man who tried to abduct a 13-year-old girl from a bus stop early Thursday morning.
The girl told her mother the incident occurred at about 7:15 a.m. at 12th and Cleveland while she was waiting for the school bus, Lt. Steve Kenney said.
A man between the ages of 25 and 30 pulled up next to her and told her to get into his vehicle. She told him “no,” and immediately walked to a friend’s house nearby.
The stranger drove off. He was wearing a black jacket and white pants, the girl told police.
She did just what children should do in that situation, Kenney said: Refuse to get in the vehicle and walk away.
If friends or family don’t live close by, he said, they should walk up to the nearest house, pound on the door and yell for the resident to call 911.
