Within the first few hours of the New Year, Wichita police began investigating two homicides.
At 2 a.m. Sunday, police were called to a QuikTrip in Derby where someone had driven a vehicle carrying a gunshot victim. Police later determined a carload of people had left a party in the 6200 block of South Madison Court in Wichita, when shots were fired into the vehicle, striking a man. The man was later transported to an area hospital, where he later died.
The second incident happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday when police were called to the 2500 block of West Wildwood, in southwest Wichita, where they found an injured man lying on the sidewalk. He was taken to a hospital and later died.
In both cases, police are looking for information and interviewing witnesses.
