The nonprofit educational Eighth Day Institute will have a symposium Jan. 28 in Wichita to explore the age-old question “What’s wrong with the world?”
Baylor University professor Ralph Wood will be among the speakers who will bring the views of English scholars including J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton to bear on the question. Other speakers include Warren Farha, owner of Eighth Day Books, speaking on “The Inklings: Friendship as a Source of Cultural Renewal”; Wichita nurse Jackie Fremin on “The Formation of Character(s) in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ ”; and Wichita educator Stan Cox on “Charles Williams: The Affirmation of Being as a Foundation of Culture.”
This is the second annual symposium for Eighth Day Institute, which seeks to renew culture through faith and learning. The symposium will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. George Cathedral, 7515 E. 13th St. Snacks and lunch will be provided. Suggested donation is $15.
