With only a few days left before Christmas, the Salvation Army is 41 percent short of its $1.7 million fundraising goal for the Wichita area.
“It’s always scary when you get this close to the end and you know you need more than 40 percent,” said Douglas Rowland, the group’s local commander.
Percentage wise, the fundraising is on pace with what it was at this time last year, he said, but the goal was set $200,000 higher than 2010 because the need is greater.
Donations at the red kettles will be taken through Saturday, Christmas Eve. Those wishing to volunteer as bell ringers at the kettle should call 316-263-2769 or go to www.ringbells.org.
Donations collected through early January will be counted toward this year’s goal, Rowland said. Donations may be made online by going to www.salvationarmy-wichita.org or by mailing a check to 350 N. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.
