Wichita police responded to a domestic violence attack early Sunday in which a woman set her boyfriend’s shirt on fire while he was wearing it.

The boyfriend called police shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. When police arrived on the scene in the 1600 block of South Market, the 38-year-old boyfriend told police his girlfriend was upset with him and had lighted his shirt on fire. She also grabbed a large cup of grease and threw that on him, police said.

He told police he was able to get the shirt off and did not experience any major burns, according to Sgt. Bart Brunscheen, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.

The man did have small burns on his forearms and abdomen and some hair was burned on his head. He was taken to a hospital, treated and released.

Police took the 37-year-old woman into custody.
