When you're trying to flee the police, it's not a good idea to turn toward and then collide with a patrol car.
But that's what a 33-year-old man did Thursday night in south Wichita, Lt. Doug Nolte said. An officer saw the man commit a traffic infraction on his motorcycle at about 7:20 p.m. at Dooley and Meridian.
When he tried to pull over the man on the Kawasaki Ninja, the rider sped away. During the ensuing chase, the rider turned into a parking lot in the 4500 block of West Harry, where another patrol car was located. The rider hit the front of the patrol car as he tried to avoid it, damaging the vehicle's hood.
The officers were not trying to strike the motorcycle, Nolte said. The rider was not seriously injured, he said, and he was booked into jail on several offenses, including outstanding warrants.
