While playing last weekend at the Adidas Nations AAU basketball tournament in Los Angeles, top recruit and Wichita Heights forward Perry Ellis told a reporter from TheShiver.com that he is now only considering Kansas, Kentucky, Duke and Kansas State.
That appeared to mean Ellis had cut out schools like Oklahoma, Memphis and Wichita State, which had Ellis had also been considering.
But on Monday, Joe Auer, Ellis' coach at Heights, said that Ellis' list has not yet been officially trimmed. Auer said that will likely happen by the end of this week.
There may have been a miscommunication, but Ellis certainly sounded like a kid who felt he had trimmed his list in the interview.
"It takes a lot of pressure off me," Ellis said, "not having a lot of schools fawning over me if I'm not interested in them. It gives me a better feel having the schools I really want on the list."
Ellis, a five-star power forward who is rated the No. 19 player in the class by Rivals.com, has attended many Kansas basketball games at Allen Fieldhouse during the last three years and is one of the keys to KU's 2012 recruiting class.
Kansas already has a commitment from a Wichita player for its 2013 recruiting class in North guard Conner Frankamp.
