WICHITA — An 18-year-old Wichita man was charged Wednesday with a felony count of aggravated battery and a misdemeanor count of unlawfully carrying a weapon for his role in an incident that left his girlfriend with a serious gunshot wound.
Bond for Ronnie L. Phillips was set at $75,000, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 3.
Wichita police said the shooting occurred Monday in the College Hill neighborhood when a small-caliber handgun fell from Phillips' waistband.
The gun discharged when it hit the pavement, police said, and the bullet struck the 19-year-old girlfriend in the chest. She is expected to recover.
