WICHITA — One man fired shots at a group of teens playing basketball at a Wichita elementary school Tuesday evening, police say.
The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. at Allen Elementary School, 1881 S. Elpyco, near Oliver and Mount Vernon. Witnesses told police two men approached the teens and started cursing, Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said. Following an argument between the men and teens, one man pulled a handgun, Nolte said.
The group of teens — males ranging in age from 14 to 19 — became nervous and scattered, Nolte said.
The man ran after the boys and fired shots.
Never miss a local story.
No one was hit, Nolte said.
Police found shell casings and three of the teens when they arrived. At least three other teens had already fled the scene, Nolte said, and were not found by police.
Police took two men — one carrying a gun — into custody near East Pawnee and South Pershing a short time later. Nolte said police think the men were involved in the shootings.
It does not appear the teens knew the men, Nolte said.
