The United Way is setting up appointments this week for its Laid-Off Workers Center's session in August.
People can call the United Way's toll-free information number by dialing 211 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The deadline to call is Friday.
After August, the center will stay open as needed on a monthly basis.
To qualify for help, laid-off workers must have been laid off and approved for unemployment compensation sometime since Oct. 1, 2008. Being fired, quitting or taking medical leave does not apply.
Never miss a local story.
The workers must show that they have emergency financial needs and do not have the resources to provide food, clothing and/or shelter.
They must also have been laid off from a job in Sedgwick, Butler or Sumner counties, or lived in those counties at the time of the layoff, since Oct. 1, 2008.
