A 19-year-old man who had been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Friday evening was arrested early Saturday after allegedly shooting at buildings, street lights and street signs in the neighborhood of the 3000 block of West Maxwell, Wichita police Sgt. Steve Yarberry said.
Police responded to an audible alarm in the area at 5:38 a.m. and then talked to a man in the neighborhood who reported that the man had stepped out of a house on Maxwell and started shooting with a rifle and a shotgun, Yarberry said.
No people were hit, Yarberry said, but damage was reported at two nearby businesses — Carpet Value at 3121 W. Pawnee and Center Industries at 2505 S. Custer.
The man was arrested on suspicion of three counts of criminal discharge of a firearm and three counts of criminal damage to property, Yarberry said.
He had been previously arrested by sheriff's deputies on Friday evening and had made threats to them before being released, Yarberry said.
