WICHITA — Sentencing has been postponed for A 23-year-old man, who pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless murder in the March 2010 death of 10-month-old Karsyn Young.
Authorities said Karsyn suffered fatal blunt-force injuries after his mother left him in the care of Blackburn, her ex-boyfriend who lived at a duplex on West Nantucket near W. 13th Street and Tyler Road.
Blackburn, who had been set to face trial on charges of first-degree murder and felony child abuse, pleaded guilty May 31 to the lesser charge under an agreement with prosecutors.
Based on preliminary criminal history information, Blackburn would face 109 to 123 months in prison — a maximum of about 10 years.

Under the amended charge, the killing was unintentional but reckless and involved extreme indifference to the value of human life.
On March 22, 2010, emergency crews found Karsyn unresponsive and cold to the touch when they answered a call that he was not breathing.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. today in Sedgwick County District Court before Judge Ben Burgess.
