Police are looking for three suspects in a robbery and shooting in northeast Wichita early this morning.
A 19-year-old man told police he was confronted by three strangers just after midnight as he returned to his home in the 1500 block of North Harvard, near 13th and Hillside. The three men forced him into his home.
One held him at gunpoint while the other two searched the house for valuables, including cash, jewelry and electronics. At one point during the incident, Lt. Doug Nolte said, the victim began grappling with his captor for control of the gun.
The gun went off and the bullet hit the victim in the upper left thigh. The shooting spooked the suspects, Nolte said, and they left the house. The victim told police they drove away in what appeared to be a gold Chevy Suburban.
Three young children -- a 13-year-old girl, an 8-year-old boy and a newborn boy -- were in the house at the time of the incident but were not harmed, Nolte said.
The victim drove himself to a local hospital for treatment, where he came across a police officer and told him what happened. His wound is not considered life-threatening, Nolte said.
The suspects were all black men who were about 18, the victim told police. One of the suspects was wearing a white T-shirt and pajama pants with black and yellow cartoon characters on it. The armed suspect had on a white shirt and black basketball shorts.
