The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. today for 18 counties in southern Kansas, including the Wichita metropolitan area.
The heat index is expected to reach 105 in the region today, according to the weather service, with temperatures ranging from 100 to 105. Winds out of the south-southwest will be steady in the teens, with gusts to about 25 miles an hour.
Overnight lows will barely dip below 80 degrees in Wichita, and Tuesday will again bring sunshine and hearty south-southwest winds. There’s a slight chance of showers Tuesday afternoon and evening, forecasters say.
