WICHITA — Wichitans wanting to drive over the Lincoln Street Bridge will have to find another route, starting today.
Work is progressing on a $13.7 million project to reconstruct the bridge and build a new dam downstream. The city plans to reopen the bridge in late 2012.
The bridge is over the Arkansas River south of downtown. Work on the project started March 14.
Plans for the dam and bridge also include a passage for boats and fish to travel through.
Until the bridge reopens, the city will detour traffic on McLean, Main and Market.
The city built the existing bridge in 1970.
