Via Christi, Wesley take in patients injured in Joplin tornado

WICHITA — Via Christi Health hospitals in Pittsburg and Wichita have received 79 patients injured by the tornado that hit Joplin and the surrounding area on Sunday.

WICHITA — Via Christi Health hospitals in Pittsburg and Wichita have received 79 patients injured by the tornado that hit Joplin and the surrounding area on Sunday.

Via Christi Hospital in Wichita has received three patients. Two were transported by air from the Joplin/Springfield, Mo., area. One is in serious condition. Another is in critical condition and has yet to be identified. The third patient came from Parsons by ground transport and is in serious condition.

Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg has received 76 patients. Of those, 30 were admitted.

Anyone trying to locate a patient at the Pittsburg hospital should call 620-231-6100.

Wesley Medical Center in Wichita has admitted two patients from the Joplin area and may receive more. Both patients were transported by helicopter and are in critical condition.

The hospital also said three Wesley employees left Sunday evening to help with tornado recovery efforts in Joplin. They took a Wesley ambulance to help transport victims.
